MUSA Bogota

Located at Kr 6 # 7-43, one block away from the Presidency of the Republic and behind the Congress building. By the north is close to the “Plaza de Bolívar” and the “Catedral Primada” of Colombia, in the “Candelaria” area, place where most of historical patrimony is located and where cultural activity occurs inside the city.

 


MUSA Cali

Located in the Merced complex, conformed by the church whose name it bears and  the convent building annexes, today converted to house the archeological museum and the religious art museum. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city, where the mass for its foundation was held in 1536.

History

The Bank "Popular" in 1970 created the Fund for the Promotion of Culture -FPC-. Currently he is in charge of the Archaeological Museums: MUSA in Bogota and La Merced in Cali, where they are displayed and saved the most representative collection of pre-Columbian pottery country.

MUSA Bogotá — Sede Casa del Marqués de San Jorge

La Casa del Marqués de San Jorge was built in the late seventeenth century. His oldest owner was the master of field Agustin Londoño and later 1,784, was Don Jorge Miguel Lozano de Peralta, considered the lender of their owners and benefited from the title of Marqués de San Jorge in 1787 by the Spanish crown. After several owners, she was donated to religious Adorers in 1943 and since 1970 is the seat of the Promotion Fund of Culture.

It occupies part of the former convent of La Merced, located in the historic area, beautiful colonial architectural jewel of great significance and importance because it represents the oldest in Santiago de Cali construction.

PUBLICATIONS

Digital Collection

Made up of 145 digitalized works that make up the "Banco Popular Library", edited by the Fondo de Promoción de la Cultura since the nineteen seventies. This collection comprises fundamental works by classic Colombian and non-Colombian authors writing about Colombian history, literature, customs, and other cultural expressions. Many volumes in this collection are out of print, and therefore we have chosen to rescue them in their entirety in the digital realm.

Art of the Land Collection

This collection is made up of a set of general interest archeology works. Each volume contains a systematic, academic approach to prehispanic pottery for each of the archeological regions of Colombia. 

Specific features of pottery pieces and their social, economic, and mythical connotations, are subject to analysis in this series, complemented with photographic documentation selected from the museum's collection.

Each volume is dedicated to a different region: Tumaco, Calima, Muisca and Guane, Quimbaya, Tairona, Sinú and Magdalena River, Nariño, San Agustín, Tierradentro and Cauca.
